It’s More Important to Be Kind than Clever

Just read this fantastic piece called “It’s More Important to Be Kind than Clever“. Important ideas at this time of year as freshman and their parents come on to campus.

And here comes the collective sigh. “Jennifer, its move in/welcome week. Snark is the only thing to get me through.” I know, I know BUT – you also know that in Student Affairs THIS IS WHAT WE DO. We care. We put ourselves out there. We work CRAZY hours. Now is not the time to focus on the sarcastic. Let’s put our best out there and make someone’s day. This is the time to make it count on a grand scale.

We ARE clever. We know it. However – let’s use our knowledge for good not evil folks. Just sayin’.

“Small gestures can send big signals about who we are, what we care about, and why people should want to affiliate with us. It’s harder (and more important) to be kind than clever.” – Bill Taylor
